Exploring the neighbourhoods of Los Angeles

Los Angeles is huge, and this trend-setting metropolis is divided into many exciting neighbourhoods. With 75 miles of stunning coastline, countless museums, excellent shopping and world-class theme parks, Los Angeles neighbourhoods truly offer something for everyone. To help you plan a trip of a lifetime to LA, we’ve listed some of our favourite neighbourhoods below.

We couldn’t write a post on Los Angeles neighbourhoods and not start with one of the most popular ones, Hollywood! Hollywood is an essential part of the Los Angeles experience and many who visit LA choose the stay in this area. Stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame, visit the Dolby Theatre, home of the Oscars, enjoy a concert at the Hollywood Bowl, catch a Broadway Musical at the Pantages Theatre and enjoy a spot of shopping. Your time in Hollywood will be action packed and fabulous! While in the area, be sure to also dine at celebrity-frequented restaurants and sip a cocktail in one of the glamorous hotels.

Venice Beach

Venice Beach is famous for many reasons. Artistic, cool and edgy, Venice Beach is a quirky beach area of Los Angeles and it's home to street performers, artists and bodybuilders. While there, be sure to visit Abbot Kinney to admire the famous street art and murals and we also recommend you visit Muscle Beach and the historic Venice Canals. Venice Beach is perfect for a spot of people watching so grab a coffee, sit out and watch the world go by, because you’re sure to see people from all walks of life.

Marina del Ray

Marina del Ray is the largest man-made marina in the United States and its perfect for an afternoon in the Californian sunshine. Marina del Ray is an upmarket area of LA and while there you can enjoy jet-skiing, sailing, sport fishing, paddle-boarding and more. If you prefer to be more active on land, Marina del Ray is also famous for its bike trails, the stunning Ballona Wetlands and dinner on the waterfront.

Universal City

Located within close proximity to Hollywood and easily accessible by the Metro, Universal City is home to Universal Studios Hollywood, the world-famous Studio Tour and Theme Park. A visit to Universal Studios Hollywood is a must do for all who visit LA. Go behind the scenes and learn how the world’s leading blockbuster movies and TV shows are made, test your limits on many incredible rides and step into the world of magic at the newly opening Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

West Hollywood

West Hollywood (aka ‘WeHo’) is one of LA’s trendiest neighbourhoods and if you’re looking for a star studded night on the town, West Hollywood is where you need to be! Enjoy a massive selection of dining options, fantastic bars and comedy clubs throughout the area. Sunset Boulevard and Robertson Boulevard are also popular for high end shopping and rooftop pools and pool bars.

Santa Monica

Named one of the top 10 beach cities in the world, Santa Monica is one of Los Angeles most popular neighbourhoods. Offering a unique blend of urban energy and a laid back beach vibe, the district is a popular choice for visitors to stay, while in LA. Spend your days enjoying the LA sunshine on the beach, walking along the iconic Santa Monica Pier or enjoying a spot of shopping on third street, Santa Monica’s infamous shopping district. In the area you will also find many world-class restaurants and bars.

South Park

South Park, located in Downtown L.A. is the home of L.A. Live, the Staples Center and the L.A. Convention Center and if you’re looking to attend a sporting event or to dance the night away at a concert, you’ll be heading to South Park! The area has really developed in recent years and is now a favourite for entertainment. Before your event, be sure to grab a bite to eat at one of South Park’s delicious restaurants.

Getting around Los Angeles

The best way to explore all of the above neighbourhoods is to drive and we always recommend that those visiting LA rent a car with their package. If you prefer not to drive, basing yourself somewhere like Hollywood will give you the opportunity to use the Metro system, which reaches most areas of LA with ease.
