Things to do in New York State

From scenic castles to thrilling rollercoasters and white-water rafting, you’ll have a world of choice awaiting you in New York State. And, if you’re visiting on a fly/drive holiday, be sure to tick the state’s top attractions below off your bucket list.

FINGER LAKES

The Finger Lakes region of New York, is a refreshing destination of gorges, waterfalls, vineyards and forests. And if you’re in the area, a visit to Buttermilk Falls is a must for some outdoor fun. We also recommend visiting the picturesque Owasco Lake and the mighty Great Lake.

For those who love wine and food, the Finger Lakes region is home to many wine and food festivals and it even has its own Cheese Trail.

LETCHWORTH STATE PARK

Letchworth State Park, known as the Grand Canyon of the East is a must see in New York. With 14,350 acres of stunning parkland, the area offers exciting year-round recreational activities including snowmobile trails, skiing, tubing and more. The Gorges in the park are over 600 feet deep and provide jaw-dropping sights, so whether you want to enjoy a casual stroll as you take in the scenery or whether you want to try your hand at hiking or rafting, Letchworth State Park has something for everyone.

NIAGARA FALLS

Sitting along the border of the United States and Canada, Niagara Falls is a must see for all in the area. And, the Niagara Falls State Park is a 400 acre park that features lush terrain, protected wildlife and exciting activities. The park also features 15 miles of hiking trails that offer incredible views at every turn. Be sure to bring your camera as the park and the Falls themselves offer views like no other.

BOLDT CASTLE

Boldt Castle, home to one of the world’s saddest love stories is a must see in New York. Accessible by boat, this 120-room Rhinestone-style Castle and Boathouse is rich in history and straight out of a fairy-tale. Enjoy a self-guided tour through the grounds and learn about its sad history as you enjoy the views from this turn of the 20th century castle.

SIX FLAGS GREAT ESCAPE

For the thrill seekers, a visit to the Six Flags Great Escape theme park is a must. With over 135 rides, shows and attractions to enjoy, you’ll have plenty of options to test your limits! Some of the top rides in Six Flags Great Escape include the Extreme Supernova, Sasquatch, Scream’ Eagles and Comet to name but a few. The park also has an on-site water park with many exciting rides for you to enjoy.
