There are numerous hiking and biking trails traversing the park. A popular half-day hike takes you to dramatic Vernal Falls, plunging over 300 feet to an angular run through large granite boulders. Two miles along the same trail will bring you to Nevada Falls, a 600-foot waterfall of cooling mist. Day hikers usually retrace their steps back from here. Continuing on from this point, however, will eventually bring you to a junction where the famous John Muir trail runs on up into the high country through some of the most dramatic alpine scenery in the Sierra.

Shopping in Yosemite National Park
After visiting a place like Yosemite, it's inevitable that you're going to need souvenirs to take back home. You can get some great gifts in the Ahwahnee Hotel's gift shop. The Yosemite Village general store is your basic supermarket and giant gift shop and it has some great presents. However, do not over look the Ansel Adams Gallery located next to the post office for some nice artwork.
Also, there are a few art galleries with some WONDERFUL Yosemite art and several gift shops in Oakhurst and Mariposa. If you plan to be in Oakhurst Memorial Day weekend (last Monday in May) or Labor Day weekend (first Monday in September) you can attend one of the largest antique and craft shows in the central valley in Oakhurst, the Peddlers Fair. This is a GIANT show.
