Top 5 things to do in The Windy City

Chicago is one of the best city break destinations in the US and with a new direct service operated by United from Shannon Airport, it’s even more accessible. If you’ve visited the likes of Boston or New York before, Chicago needs to be next on your list! Spend your days relaxing on the beach, strolling down to Navy Pier for a bite to eat or flying through the sky at Six Flags: Great America, it’s all possible in Chicago! With that in mind, we’ve put together a list of the top 5 things to do in the Windy City to help you plan a trip to remember!

1. EXPLORE MILLENNIUM PARK

One of Chicago’s highlights is Millennium Park. Millennium Park is a contemporary, modern park that’s home to the famous Cloud Gate aka the Chicago Bean! Millennium Park is a busy area of the city and it always has something interesting happening. From free dance lessons to big festivals such as the Taste of Chicago festival, it’s a busy spot in the city! During the summer months there is also a series of free outdoor movies that air every Tuesday.

2. SHOPPING ON THE MAGNIFICENT MILE

Shopping in Chicago is a must and there are so many great locations in Chicago for you to spend some bucks! Michigan Avenue, also called The Magnificent Mile, is the shopping hub of Chicago and it has many stores ranging from well known department stores to small brands and top designers. You can devote an entire day to shopping in Topshop or why not splash out on a bag in Ralph Lauren!

North Bridge is a four level shopping mall located in the heart of the Magnificent Mile and it features Nordstrom as well as over 50 other stores such as Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton and Sephora! The incredible selection of shops means you’ll be spoilt for choice during your visit!

3. SEEK SOME THRILLS AT SIX FLAGS: GREAT AMERICA

If you are looking for a thrill during your visit, head to Six Flags: Great America’s which is located just outside Chicago. Travelling by car, Six Flags is only a 45 minute drive from Chicago and for those without cars, Pace bus service has an express bus to Six Flags. At Six Flags, take a go on Loggers Run or get an adrenaline rush on the the tallest, fastest ride in the park, Raging Bull! There are also plenty of gentle rides for the kids and many entertaining shows for a break from the sun. During the Summer months, you can also visit the on-site water park, Hurricane Harbour.

4. SEE IT ALL AT SKYDECK CHICAGO

One of the top Chicago attractions that needs to be on your bucket list is Willis Tower, home of the famous Skydeck! At Willis Tower, you can enjoy spectacular views of Chicago and Lake Michigan from the 103rd floor. From the observation deck, you can also step out onto a glass ledge to experience the Chicago skyline like never before and if you want to make your trip extra special, plan your visit for when the sun is setting over the city!

5. CATCH A GAME AT WRIGLEY FIELD

You can’t go to the USA without catching an iconic game of baseball and the Chicago Cubs are one of the USA’s most famous teams! Wrigley Field is a quick 20 minute train ride from Downtown and we highly recommend you head out there and catch a game! While there, make like the locals and kit yourself out in some Chicago Cubs memorabilia and grab a bite to eat before you head in! A Chicago Cubs game is a great way to experience the sporty side of Chicago and the buzz at the games is fantastic!
